Iranian opposition’s Camp Ashraf attacked – Statement 69

Demonstrations and sit-ins continue in Europe and United States

NCRI – Simultaneous with hunger strike by Ashraf residents in intolerable summer heat in Iraq, hunger strikes by Iranian expatriates and supporters of the Iranian Resistance in solidarity with Ashraf residents across from the White House in Washington D.C. and the U.S. embassy in London entered their second week. Today is the seventh day of such strikes in Berlin and Ottawa outside the U.S. embassies.

A number of hunger strikers had to be taken to hospital yesterday. Iranian exiles visit the sites where hunger strikes are taking place and express their solidarity with them and the Ashraf residents.

Hunger strikers have been condemning brutal attacks by Iraqi forces on Mojahedin members residing in Camp Ashraf in Iraq’s Diyala province. The attacks are carried out under the orders of the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The expatriates on strike support the demands of Ashraf residents and emphasize that they will continue until those demands are met. They call for immediate release of 36 PMOI members taken hostage by the Iraqi forces and withdrawal of the forces from Camp Ashraf and assumption of protection of Ashraf by the U.S. forces.

In the meantime, demonstrations, sit-ins and gatherings by Iranians against brutal attacks by Iraqi forces on Ashraf and killing and arresting of PMOI members in the Camp have been going on in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo in Sweden; Geneva in Switzerland; The Hague in The Netherlands; Melbourne in Australia; Vancouver in Canada; Paris in France, Copenhagen and Arhus in Denmark; and Rome in Italy.
