Iran: Protest near Azadi Square in Tehran, protesters set on fire IRGC’s vehicle

File photo: June 13, 2009, Tehran, IranNCRI – According to Social Headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) inside Iran, at about 16:00 local time today, two groups of protesters of about 100 people staged separate anti-government demonstrations simultaneously; one on the fringe of Tehran-Karaj Highway and the other around Azadi Square.

The first group started marching toward Azadi Bus Terminal after gathering in Azadi Square. They set on fire a military vehicle on their way near the Revolutionary Guard Corps garrison in the area. They managed to leave the area before the suppressive forces arrived. The heavy traffic which was caused in solidarity with the protesters prevented fire engines to get to the scene in time leaving the vehicle to burn completely.

The second group held a similar protest gathering in a street called Shahid Sattari, few hundred meters away from Azadi Square. They set fire to garbage containers and tires and chanted anti-government slogans. A column of smoke could be seen from a distance and Azadi Square. They left the area before the State Security Forces arrived.
