International conference in Paris: Call for Iraqi forces to evacuate Camp Ashraf and protection of residents

Serious change of Iran policy and approach to Iranian Resistance required

NCRI – In an international conference in Paris on Wednesday April 27, MPs and high-ranking officials from France, the US and Europe, Nobel Laureates, human rights advocates and politicians condemned the massacre of the defenseless Ashraf residents on April 8, called for the adoption of an urgent action by the UN and US for Iraqi forces to evacuate Camp Ashraf and to ensure the protection for the camp.

Speakers in the conference included General James Jones, Obama Administration National
Security Adviser (2009-2010), Elie Wiesel, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, General Wesley Clark, former NATO Commander, US Congressman Patrick Kennedy (1991-2011), Ingrid Betancourt, Columbian Presidential candidate, William Bourdon and  Jean-Pierre Spitzer, and prominent lawyers.

This conference stressed the massacre of the unarmed members of the Iranian Resistance in Camp Ashraf on April 8 by forces under the order of Maliki had no motive other than carrying out Tehran’s demands. According to a UN spokesman, 34 Ashraf residents were murdered in this massacre and 300 others were wounded. (In the following days, the numbers increased to 35 killed and 345 wounded.)

The Iranian people’s courageous uprising – coinciding with uprisings across the region – has forced the religious dictatorship ruling Iran to exhaust all its resources to crackdown on all its dissidents, inside Iran by executions, and in Camp Ashraf through the Iraqi Army and Maliki’s government.

The conference calls on the UN, European governments and the US for a drastic policy change vis-à-vis the Iranian regime and a new approach towards the Iranian Resistance.

In this conference, the statement by 106 members of Swedish Parliament that have called for guaranteeing the protection of Ashraf residents, recognition of Iranian people’s just resistance and initiating of official dialogue with the democratic opposition of National Council of Resistance of Iran was presented.

In a speech delivered at this conference, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, called on the UN, US and EU to take the following measures:

1. Resumption of Ashraf’s protection responsibility by UN and US, evacuation of Iraqi armed forces from Ashraf, and adoption of a resolution in UN Security Council on Ashraf’s protection;

2. Appointment of a UN Security Council representative to conduct a full, impartial, transparent and independent inquiry into the grave crime of April 8;

3. Ending the siege on Ashraf, especially the inhumane medical blockade, stopping the psychological torture of Ashraf residents, and removing all loudspeakers around Ashraf;

4.Lifting the terror tag against the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) by the US State Department and official recognition of the Iranian Resistance for regime change in Iran.
