International call for treatment of 42 seriously wounded in Ashraf during the April 8

Ashraf military occupation – No. 100

crime against humanity by orders of Maliki

• 22 innocent residents run over by HUMVEE and HUMMER, of whom four were crushed to death.
• 225 hit by direct gunshot or grenade shrapnel
• Of 345 wounded, 93 were taken to public hospitals only to receive very rudimentary treatment such that U.S. forces transferred seven of them to U.S. military hospital near Ashraf

• Despite recommendation by U.S. Secretary of Defense regarding medical aid to wounded in Ashraf, in the past month, the U.S. forces have not taken any other actions for treatment of the wounded
• Objective of continuing medical siege of Ashraf is to prevent free access to medical services (at expense of residents themselves) and torture the sick to death

Although a month goes by from the brutal attack by Iraqi forces on defenseless Ashraf residents on 8 April 2011 which left behind 35 martyrs and 345 injured, forty-two of the seriously wounded in this barbaric attack have not yet received acceptable medical treatment.

Eight of the injured with broken or smashed bones and extensive wounds in the chest and the collapse of their lungs are in need of multiple surgeries and are in need of immediate medical treatment. Four of the eight are currently in a hospital in Baghdad with no hope to receive an acceptable treatment (these eight are: Ali Abolfathi, Mansour Hajian, Mojtaba Shadbash, Mitra Ilkhani, Mohammadreza Rahimi, Nasser Kalhor, Karamyar Moradi, Mohammad Reza Salehpour).

13 others who suffer sight disorders due to brain trauma, shot in the head, nervous damages, fractures in legs and arms, and looseness of wrists and ankles need to be examined by specialist physicians and undergo surgery operation (names: Ahmad Nazem Zomorrodian, Parviz Bazoft, Moosa Javdan, Siamak Raji, Ardeshir Sharifian, Mahmood Heydari, Asghar Mohammadi, Reza Salami, Ali Kazemi, Mohammad Aboli, Akbar Kazemi, Saeed Abdi and Javad Rabii)

21 others, who were shot in the abdomen, shoulder and scapula, or their feet and hands were amputated, and received some treatment, are in need of completing their medical treatment due to severity of their wounds and being hurt in different parts of their bodies (names: Mohsen Khosravani, Jafar Babaii, Kiomars Najib, Mohammad Taghi Abkhezr, Gohar Salehi, Daryoush Rostami, Mojtaba Zargar, Mohammad Tasharrofi, Habib Akhbari, Ali Fatehi, Hossein Mottaki, Shirin Moshfegh Nia, Yousef Mobarhan, Shahbaz Etminan, Ali Zangiabadi, Tayyebeh Massih, Daryoush Karimi, Hossein Golizadeh, Majid Mohammadi, Omid Saeedi, and Sayfollah Ghaytani).

Over the past one month and despite repeated appeals, out of 345 residents wounded in the brutal attack against Ashraf, only 93 (about 27%) were taken to general hospitals in Baquba or Baghdad who were then brought back to Ashraf after receiving imperfect treatment such that the US forces, after examining them, transferred seven of them to the US Army hospital near Ashraf.

During the April 8th attack on the orders of Nouri al-Maliki, 22 defenseless residents of Ashraf were run over by HUMVEE and HUMMER, of whom four were crushed to death.

Despite instructions made by the US Secretary of Defense on providing medical assistance to the Ashraf’s wounded (DOD website, April 8), it is one month now that the US forces have not taken any other serious step for the treatment of the wounded.

As to the others, there is no other alternative for them other than being treated by the Ashraf’s physicians with very trivial medical facilities, given that Ashraf has been under siege, especially medical and medicine siege, for nearly two and have years. This is while the 225 residents who were wounded by direct gunfire or grenade shrapnel need daily change of dressing and various types of antibiotics to prevent and control infection. Entry of medicine and medical equipment to Ashraf is banned, and a major part of the medication worth of tens of thousands of dollars purchased by Ashraf residents have been confiscated by Omar Khaled, manager of the torture center that is called “New Iraq Hospital”.

Iranian Resistance asks all international organizations and assemblies, especially the US government that is committed with regard to protection and humane treatment of Ashraf residents, to take urgent action for medical treatment of 42 seriously wounded residents and for lifting medical and restrictions on Ashraf. The patients should enjoy the right to free access to all medical services at their own expenses.
