Despite numerous international appeals, al-Maliki blocks UN representative’s visit to Camp Ashraf

Camp Ashraf military occupation- No. 39

NCRI – On the third day of the heinous attacks by Nouri al-Maliki’s forces, resulting in 33 deaths and wounding of more than 300 other members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), al-Maliki continues to block visits to Camp Ashraf by UN representatives.

This is despite the request by UN Special Representative in Iraq, Mr. Ad Melkert, expressed at the UN Security Council’s meeting on Friday August 8th, and the call on April 9th by the European Union’s High Representative, Ms. Catherine Ashton for free access to Camp Ashraf by international observers.

By preventing UN representatives’ visit to Ashraf, Maliki who is directly responsible for the atrocious attack against Ashraf and is a perpetrator of crimes against humanity, is attempting, on the one hand, to avoid revelation of the enormity of the scope of his horrible crime on April 8th, and on the other hand, to set the stage for further attacks and violence against Camp Ashraf residents on behalf of Ali Khamenei, Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader.
