CAMP LIBERTY: Crime continues after missile barrage with blockade on entry of fuel and basic necessities and discharge of sewage

While the savage missile attack on Camp Liberty that led to the martyrdom of 24 PMOI (MEK) members destroyed large sections of the camp, not only has the Government of Iraq not assisted in provision of immediate needs to the camp, but the Governmental Committee tasked to suppress Camp Liberty residents that operates under Faleh Fayyad has intensified the 7-year-long siege on Camp Liberty residents following the missile barrage.

On Thursday, November 5, for the seventh consecutive day, the suppression committee prevented fuel and basic necessities from getting into the camp. The Iraqi officers even refused to allow vehicles carrying food or sewage tankers rented by residents that had reached the camp to enter. This is while all the camp’s infrastructure, including water, kitchen, heating and cooling systems, and the sewage system work with electricity that is solely provided by generators that need fuel on a daily basis.

Everything indicates that the missile attack and the ratcheting up of the siege are part and parcel of the same scenario dictated by the Iranian regime. Details of the ratcheted up blockade which is a blatant and grave violation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of Iraq and the United Nations on December 25, 2011 have been reported to UNAMI, the UNHCR, and the U.S. Embassy on a daily basis. Regretfully, however, no effective measures have been taken.

The Iranian Resistance reminds the international community of their commitments regarding the security and wellbeing of Camp Liberty residents and calls on the U.S. government, the European Union, and the United Nations to take immediate measures to promptly lift the siege on Camp Liberty so that the residents would be able to bring in their imperative needs particularly following the barbaric missile attack.
