Bogus remarks of an Iraqi security official

Lion and Sun official symbol of the NCRINCRI – The Iraqi National Security Advisor, Mouwaffaq al-Rubaie, on March 22 issued a statement saying, “The trip of Mr. Maki Rafii, one of the residents of Camp [Ashraf] who had escaped the suppression and control of those who run the Camp, was arranged. He sought refuge with the Iraqi authorities who had provided him with comfort and security. He is to be under their watchful eyes until his case for traveling [to Iran] is resolved and his passport by the Iranian government is issued.”

Rafii who had earlier quitted Ashraf is the same person referred to by Rubaie 24 hours before his March 22 statement. Al-Rubaie in an interview with the Iraqi state television Al-Iraqiya quoted Rafii as saying, “They sent me out of the Camp and instructed me to set myself on fire [as soon as] I arrived at the [location] of the Iraqi Army. Then, they [People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI)] can claim that the Iraqi forces did it." Al-Rubaie in a different statement on January 19 referred to the same person and said, “One of the residents of Camp Ashraf surrendered to Iraqi security officials and said that he has come from the PMOI for a suicide mission in the headquarters of the Iraqi forces.”

It is not clear that he had gone to carry out “suicide mission” or commit suicide by setting himself on fire. It was not clear either that he had escaped “the suppression and control of those who run the Camp” or “he was helped to escaped,” or “he had surrendered to Iraqi forces.” When it comes to pay a service to the bloodletting mullahs, lies and contradictory statements are fare play.

Rafii, as it was mentioned in the statement issued by the Secretariat of the NCRI on January 20, when the war started in March 2003 sought refuge at Ashraf after coming from Iran and had decided to leave Ashraf. On Tuesday, January 15, 2009, after submitting a written request and receiving financial assistance from the PMOI, he went to Iraqi forces at Ashraf’s gate. U.S. forces came to the scene later and took him away. Two days later, the U.S. forces handed him to Iraq’s Ministry of Human Rights to determine his final disposition. The letters of this individual along with the receipt of financial assistance from the PMOI are available and ready to be published.

According to reliable information from inside Iran, Rafii later went to Hotel Mansour in Baghdad which is the hotbed of the members of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and other agents based in its embassy in Baghdad. Some agents of the MOIS along with members of his family were dispatched from Iran to Baghdad. According to the same sources, Raffii’s relatives are in contact with MOIS in Tehran.

In his latest statement, al-Rubaie has accused the PMOI of torturing their opponents and brainwashing the Ashraf residents. If Mr. Rubaie is true on his words and in order to expose the so-called suppression and torture, he could order the Iraqi forces not to stop reporters from entering Ashraf. He could allow international human rights organizations, delegations from parliaments in Europe and North America as well as representatives of Arab countries to go and visit Ashraf. They have been seeking visas from the Iraq government for such visits. Mr. al-Rubaie also could stop hindering Iraqis entering Ashraf. Only if all that is fulfilled then one can decide who has really been brainwashed; Ashraf residents or Mr. al-Rubaie who has sold his soul and mind to the ruling religious fascism in Iran.
