Ashraf residents’ petition sent to UN, U.S., EU and Arab States

Camp Ashraf military occupation– No. 93

Call on United Nations to protect Ashraf

NCRI – All residents in Ashraf signed a petition to declare the sole solution to prevent another bloodbath in Ashraf is for the United Nations to assume and guarantee Ashraf’s protection and for the UNAMI to station a permanent monitoring team in Ashraf.

This petition has been sent to the United Nations Secretary General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Special Representative of UN Secretary General for Iraq, President of the UNSC, the U.S. President and Secretaries of State and Defense, the U.S. Ambassador and Commander of forces in Iraq, the U.S. Speakers of both Houses together with Chairs of the Foreign Affairs and Armed Forces Committees of both Houses, the High Representative of the European Union, Foreign Ministers of EU member states, and leaders of Arab countries.

Ashraf residents requested designation of a Security Council representative to investigate the massacre of April 8. They also demanded that the Iraqi armed forces leave Ashraf to be stationed in buildings provided to them by the residents outside the camp at its entrance. They called these as the minimum steps to quell the situation and create a normal atmosphere for further attempts to achieve a peaceful long-term solution agreeable to all parties.

This petition partly reads: “Political indications from Tehran and Baghdad and from what we can see here on the ground point to the continuation of a planned massacre. … The assailant forces are still inside and around Ashraf and the guns on armored vehicles stationed on the northern part of the Camp point at the residents. The Engineering battalions of 4, 5 and 12 divisions of Iraqi army have set up new battle installations … The Iraqi helicopters are constantly carrying out reconnaissance flights over Ashraf.”
