Maryam Rajavi:Urgent action needed to save lives of hunger striking political prisoners in Shiraz and Ahwaz

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, called on the UN Secretary-General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights to take urgent action to save the lives of political prisoners on hunger strike in prisons in Shiraz and Ahwaz.

Referring to 73 days of hunger strike by political prisoners Kasra Nouri and Saleh Moradi of Gonabadi dervishes imprisoned in Adel-Abad in Shiraz and 28 days of hunger strike by six Arab political prisoners in Ahwaz prison, Mrs. Rajavi said:”These strikes and the vicious indifference of the mullahs towards them, reveals the oppression, torture and containment in regime’s prisons. At the same time this is a disgrace for the pertinent international bodies to keep silent and inertia in the face of the call for justice by the oppressed political prisoners in Iran.”

Expressing concern over the dire condition of the Gonabadi dervishes who are in their ninth day of dry hunger strike, she stressed: “Khamenei and the henchmen under his command, who run Velayat-e faqih judiciary, are directly responsible for endangering the lives of the prisoners on strike in Shiraz and Ahwaz.”

President-elect of the Resistance hailed the prisoners on strike and the courageous sit-in by their families in front of Adel-Abad prison in Shiraz and urged all compatriots to express solidarity with the prisoners and to protest against the ruling inhumane regime.
