Iran: Talking Trash to Evade Implications of Conspiracy and Crime at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran

In order to evade the implications of conspiracy and crime committed at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran, the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) has published falsehoods about the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in a suspicious website called “Azariha website” on February 5, 2023.

In an article titled “Details about the link between attackers on the Baku Embassy and the PMOI/MEK and the Pan-Azeris” the aforementioned website writes that the killer attacker (Yasin Hosseinzadeh, known as Safar), whom Baku has described his work as an act of terrorism, suffers from “mental disorder”, “engaged in smuggling activities” and was related to “Pan-Azeris and the PMOI/MEK” because “he and his brother were related to the PMOI/MEK at the beginning of the revolution and are so-called repentant PMOI/MEK affiliates”.

The website writes, “another issue is about the relationship between the Baku government and the PMOI/MEK. As far as we know, this terrorist organization has several offices in Baku and Ganjeh and operates in this country. Saber Rostam Khanli, a member of the parliament of Baku, attended the annual meeting of the PMOI/MEK in May 2022 in Albania and gave an important speech in support of this organization for 6 minutes. From his speech, it can be concluded that the PMOI/MEK (despite all security agreements) is present and active in that country and that Saber Rostam Khanli has made a clear statement about this. It seems that Ilham Aliyev’s sudden trip to Albania in December 2022, simultaneous with the crisis in Tehran-Baku relations, was a part of this relationship. The relations between Albania and Baku were never at a level to prompt Aliyev to visit this country personally. Especially, there were no indications of any visit by the deputy and foreign ministers and specialized working groups in recent weeks and months. With this in mind, what could Aliyev’s sudden trip to Albania mean?”

1- The PMOI/MEK has had and does not have any contact or any information about Yasin Hosseinzadeh and his brother.

2- Yasin Hosseinzadeh’s birth certificate was published by the IRGC news agency, and according to this document, Yassin Hosseinzadeh was born in 1969 and was a minor at the “beginning of the revolution”, therefore could not be a PMOI/MEK “repentant”.
3- Contrary to the MOIS claims, the PMOI/MEK does not have any offices or representation in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku, and Ganjeh.
4- Contrary to the claim of the MOIS, Mr. Saber Rostam Khanli, a member of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, did not attend the annual meeting of the PMOI/MEK in 2022 in Albania and did not give a speech. He never went to Albania to meet with the PMOI/MEK and his message of support in 2021 was given online.
5- The visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Albania has nothing to do with PMOI/MEK.

From the above, it is clear that the shocking crime committed at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran has created a grave situation for the regime making the MOIS produce such trash-talking to justify it.

The Security and Counterterrorism Committee demands the presence of the representatives and lawyers of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the investigations into this case in Tehran from the beginning to the end and the publication of the results of the investigations with all the details for public information.
