‘Rouhani is no moderate, He is not welcome in Europe’

“Hassan Rouhani is no moderate. He is no reformer. He is a fascist and a killer. He is not welcome here,” Struan Stevenson, former president of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iraq, told the thousands of supporters of the Iranian opposition in Thursday’s rally in Paris protesting the visit by the president of the clerical regime to France.

“We Europeans should be on the side of the people of Iran. We should be on the side of freedom, not oppression. We should not deal with tyrants.”

“The ‘smiling’, ‘moderate’ Rouhani is in charge of a government which is venally corrupt; a government which has executed over 2000 people since he took office 2½ years ago; a government which condones torture and arbitrary imprisonment; a government which discriminates against women, treats them as second-class citizens.”

Mr. Stevenson said: “This is the real Iran under the theocratic and fascist rule of the mullahs. This is the real Iran whose so-called moderate president our leaders have invited to Paris. “

“For decades, Iran has systematically jailed, tortured, and executed dissidents without due process of law and assassinated political opponents outside its state borders. Rouhani’s fingerprints are all over the missile attacks on Camp Liberty 2½ years ago and again at the end of October last year when 24 defenseless refugees were brutally killed. His aggression against the 2000 courageous PMOI refugees in Camp Liberty clearly reveals the Iranian regime’s naked fear of the main Opposition movement. They fear and loathe Mrs Maryam Rajavi and her secular and democratic programme for Iran, which would restore freedom, justice and human rights to the oppressed millions.”

Standing on the podium along with many European politicians, members of French National Assembly and human rights activists, he told the crowd: “I long for the day when the sunshine of freedom will shine once more on the people of Iran.”

“Only Mrs Maryam Rajavi [the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran] can lead the people of Iran towards the freedom that they so much deserve.”
