Maryam Rajavi: Iranian people’s protest today show their desire for overthrow of the clerical regime

NCRI – Commenting on Iranian people’s protest today, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, said: Today’s people’s uprising in Tehran and many other cities across Iran chanting “Down with the dictator” once again showed the Iranian people’s desire to overthrow the religious fascism ruling Iran. Today, the will of Iranian women and youths overwhelmed the suppressive measures adopted by the Iranian regime and vast numbers of IRGC and Bassij paramilitary force.

As in Egypt and Tunisia, the Iranian people’s uprising will continue until the overthrow of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran with all its factions, to establish democracy and popular sovereignty. She called on the international community to impose comprehensive sanctions against the Iranian regime and sever ties with it and take urgent measures to release those arrested today.

Since early hours this afternoon, various parts of Tehran witnessed protest demonstrations despite unprecedented suppressive measures. The suppressive forces attacked protesters and clashed with people.

In recent weeks, the criminal mullahs have executed political prisoners, especially PMOI supporters and family members of residents of Camp Ashraf (home to 3,400 PMOI members) in a desperate effort to create a climate of fear and prevent upsurge of popular uprisings.

On January 29, the leadership of the Iranian Resistance called on the Iranian people, especially women and youths, to rise against the clerical rule during the current Iranian month (January 21 – February 19).
