Iran: Former Head of the Regime’s Atomic Energy Organization: Fakhrizadeh Created the System for Obtaining an Atomic Bomb

NCRI

On the eve of a new round of nuclear talks in Vienna, on Saturday, November 27, 2021, Fereydoun Abbasi, a parliament deputy and the former head of the regime’s Atomic Energy Organization, confessed in an interview with a state-run daily, “Iran,” that Fakhrizadeh, the assassinated former head of the regime’s nuclear weapons project, had created a system to produce a nuclear bomb. “The name of the organization that Mr. Fakhrizadeh was recently managing was the ‘Defensive Innovation and Research Organization’ (Known with its Persian acronym, as SPND,” Abbasi said. If one wants to work in defense innovation, one needs a wide range of science and technology. Nuclear, missile, electronic, etc. … will automatically result from this. While our restraint on nuclear weapons is clear from Khamenei’s explicit fatwa on the prohibition of nuclear weapons. But Fakhrizadeh had created this system, and his concern was not only defending our country. We are also backing the resistance front.”

In fear of the consequences of this confession, the state-run daily “Iran” added an editor’s note to justify Abbasi’s obviously worrisome claim, by writing in the same daily, that the interview had been “distorted,” while not denying Abbasi’s claim. The note said, “By fragmenting and distorting a written interview with Fereydoun Abbasi… [a foreign broadcaster] claimed that ‘Despite the Supreme Leader’s fatwa on nuclear weapons, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh had created a system for it, while Abbasi explicitly refers to the creation of SPND,” the daily wrote yesterday.

Abbasi’s remarks once again prove that the regime never had and never will give up the project of acquiring a nuclear bomb, and Khamenei’s vague fatwa is only a fig leaf to conceal the regime’s nuclear weaponization project. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), told the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives in May 2015: Khamenei’s fatwa on the prohibition of nuclear weapons is a deception. Years ago, Khomeini instructed Khamenei that, in the interests of the regime, “the Supreme Leader can unilaterally cancel the sharia contracts he has concluded with the people.” The regime wants to upset the balance of power by acquiring a bomb and then imposing its domination and hegemony over the region. If the Iranian regime acquires an atomic bomb or is on the nuclear threshold, the primary problem will not be a nuclear arms race in the region. This is a secondary problem. The primary problem will be that religious fascism will control the region’s political, economic, and military destiny and as well as that of many Islamic countries.

Last week, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), after returning from Iran, said that his extensive talks in Iran “proved inconclusive.” He expressed concerns that IAEA inspectors did not have access to one of the regime’s nuclear facilities in Karaj, which seriously affected the agency’s ability to carry out its duties.

The only way to stop the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons projects is to reactivate the six UN Security Council resolutions, dismantle the regime’s nuclear sites and enrichment activity altogether, and conduct anytime, anywhere inspections.
