Over the past week, various cities across the country witnessed dozens of strikes and protests by workers and low-wage earners, protesting non-payment of months of salaries, lack of insurance coverage, and arrears.
These protests, which sometimes lasted for several days included, a protest by workers of Omidiyeh Municipality in front of the governor’s office in protest against the non-payment of eight months of their salaries and benefits; a protest by workers of Khorramshahr and Hoseyniye Municipality for not receiving eight months of wages and benefits and insurance payment, a protest by Shadegan Water and Sewerage Department workers against the non-payment of wages, a protest by Ahvaz Keyson Company workers against the non-payment of 20-month of their salaries, a protest by Mapna workers (Phase 19 of Kangan 10th Refinery) against the lack of COVID-19 preventive measures, a strike by workers of Atieh Sazan Persia Company in Kangan against wage cuts, a strike by several workers of Sapik Asaluyeh Petrochemical Company, a rally by fired workers of Kaveh Glass Factory in Saveh, and a gathering of workers of Ilam Municipality in front of the city’s judiciary to protest the non-payment of their salaries and what they are owed.

In addition to the workers’ protests, last week, fuel tanker drivers went on a strike in Kermanshah, Islamabad Gharb, Ilam, parts of Marivan, Hamedan, and Arak. This strike, begun more than three weeks ago, has continued, and many fuel tanker drivers in the cities of Mahshahr and Bandar Abbas have also joined the strike. They demand a raise in their fares because due to the high cost of spare parts and tires and the skyrocketing price of food, they cannot make ends meet with current fares.

On Sunday, December 13, 2020, a large number of retirees in 14 cities, including Tehran, Tabriz, Arak, Khorramabad, Ilam, Mashhad, Isfahan, Bojnurd, Yazd, Rasht, and Ahvaz, gathered to protest against their low salaries and non-payment of what they are owed.
