· Head of Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences: To prevent public anxiety, Coronavirus death toll in Khuzestan will not be announced until further notice. There are concerns, and the Health Ministry must limit some issues
· Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences: If the health protocols are not followed, next month (a week from today in Persian calendar) will be one of mourning for Kurdistan. On Thursday, Towhid Hospital was full, which points to the outbreak of the disease in Sanandaj and Kurdistan.
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Saturday, June 13, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 332 cities across Iran has increased to 51,500. The number of victims in Tehran is 10,690, Khuzestan 4,185, Khorasan Razavi 3,205, Sistan and Baluchestan 1,915, Lorestan 1,740, West Azerbaijan 1,425, and Kurdistan 1,045.
Speaking at the National Coronavirus Combat Taskforce (NCCT) today, Hassan Rouhani acknowledged the critical situation in various provinces, saying, “We are in the first peak of the outbreak in some provinces. In some, we’ve passed the first peak… The prediction is that other provinces are in a queue … In the country, apart from a few cities, we have still not reached a point where 60-65% of the population have contracted the virus and have overcome it. We neither have a vaccine available, nor mass immunity exists, so we are concerned, and we need to be watchful.” Despite the usual lies, Rouhani implicitly acknowledged the lack of medical facilities, saying, “All over the world, even in advanced countries, beds, ICUs and facilities are limited in terms of doctors and nurses, there are restrictions everywhere so limitation must be taken into account. Let’s make sure that every Province that enters the peak period will pass through it calmly and cohesively, avoiding a sharp peak that would cause problems and frustrate everyone.” He once again shamelessly blamed the people for the outbreak, “The people observed the health protocols up to 80% until May 19 (end of Ordibehesht, the second month in Persian Calendar, simultaneous to forcing people back to work), but in the first week of June it went down to 20 percent.” He then threatened, “Without cooperation, people’s health would be compromised, and we will have to re-impose restrictions.”
In Tehran, Alireza Zali, head of the NCCT, told Eqtesad 24 daily today, “Five percent of the outpatients over the past 24 hours were hospitalized, whereas the ratio was 3.5 percent before. This is something we should consider.” He expressed his concerns over the “dilapidated equipment and shortages regarding those hospitalized” and exhaustion of the medical staff due to the persistence of the disease.
In Khuzestan, the head of Ahvaz University of Medical Sciences said yesterday, “In order to prevent public anxiety, the number of Coronaviruses infections will not be announced until further notice … There is a matter of concern in society, and the Ministry of Health has to restrict some issues.” A spokesman for the NCCT in Khuzestan was quoted by the state-controlled website, Tabnak, today as saying, “Due to the increase in the spread of the disease … all hospitals have shifted to accepting Coronavirus patients to full capacity.”
In Kurdistan, the vice-president of Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences told the Tasnim news agency yesterday, “If the health protocols are not followed; next month (a week from today in Persian calendar) will be the month of mourning for Kurdistan.” “On Thursday, Towhid Hospital was full to capacity, which points to the outbreak of the disease in Sanandaj and Kurdistan,” reported the official news agency, ISNA, quoting the President of the University of Medical Sciences in Kurdistan today.
In Kermanshah, the President of Kermanshah’s University of Medical Sciences, told the state radio and tv news agency today, “Hospitalizations have increased by two and half times in the past two weeks.” Kermanshah governor said, “After Khuzestan, our Province has seen a rise in the number of those infected. This is a warning sign for us, and a heavy price must be paid to rectify it.”
In Lorestan, President of Medical Sciences University told Mehr news agency yesterday, “On average, 200 are added to those infected in the Province every day. With the increase in the trend of infections, deaths will also increase.”
In East Azerbaijan, Deputy Governor was quoted by IRNA today as saying, “The increase in hospitalizations and seriously ill patients is concerning since last week. If this trend continues, we will have no choice other than imposing new social and economic restrictions. Maragheh Medical Sciences University president added, “In the past two weeks, the number of those infected in the city has risen. This is a serious warning.”
In Hormozgan, the head of Bandar Abbas training and treatment complex told IRNA yesterday, “The increasing trend of those infected has caused an intense crisis in the treatment system. The need to add special beds continues… The number of those infected has risen sharply and caused the death of many in the Province. Some of them had no illness background whatsoever. This has been a serious alarm bell.”
