- Mohsen Hashemi, Chairman of the Tehran City Council: The death toll in Tehran has doubled compared to the same period last (Persian) year. The number of Coronavirus related deaths over the past eight months in Tehran are already several times higher than the average death toll during the (Iran-Iraq) War (ISNA, November 1, 2020).
- Minoo Mohrez, member of the scientific committee of the National Coronavirus Taskforce: I have witnessed the number of patients increasing in a frightening way. Schools, universities, restaurants, shopping centers and other places must be closed for at least a week to bring down the numbers (Setareh Sobh daily, November 1, 2020).
- Deputy of the National Coronavirus Taskforce, Nader Tavkkoli: The health committee in Tehran, which includes the City Council, the coronavirus crisis management center, and the parliamentary health committee, have proposed a two-week shutdown in Tehran (IRNA, November 1, 2020).
- A member of the Tehran City Council: People are fed up with having to fear the Coronavirus and poverty. The social situation is very unstable. The government is refusing to shutdown cities that are worst hit, such as Tehran (ISNA, November 1, 2020).
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK) announced this afternoon, November 1, 2020, that Coronavirus has taken the lives of more than 139,400 in 462 cities across Iran. The death toll in various provinces include: 33,781 in Tehran, 10,577 in Khorasan Razavi, 8,303 in Khuzestan, 7,739 in Isfahan, 6,052 in Mazandaran, 5,918 in Lorestan, 5,186 in Gilan, 4,882 in East Azerbaijan, 4,097 in West Azerbaijan, 3,860 in Alborz, 3,761 in Golestan, 3,725 in Hamedan, 3,663 in Fars, 3,656 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 2,491 in Kurdistan, 2,241 in Yazd, 2,227 in Kerman, 2,102 in Markazi (Central), 2,062 in Semnan, 1,617 in Bushehr, 1,548 in Ardabil and 1,407 in Ghazvin.
The state-run news agency IRNA quoted a Health Ministry spokesperson on Sunday as saying: “If this trend continues, we will possibly see more unfortunate deaths and Coronavirus related fatalities in the country in the future.”
Nader Tavakkoli, Deputy of the National Coronavirus Task Force, was quoted by IRNA on Sunday saying: “The health committee in Tehran, which includes the City Council, the coronavirus crisis management center, and the parliamentary health committee, have proposed a two-week shutdown in Tehran.”
