NCRI – The Iranian regime appointed Fereydoon Abbasi Davani, member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and one of the most senior figures in the clerical regime’s nuclear weapons program, as Vice-president and the head of the Iran Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO).

His identity and function in various areas of the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons program have been revealed on number of occasions by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). For instance, in a press conference in Paris on November 15, 2004, in which the NCRI revealed the Lavizan Shian2 site, Abbasi was revealed as one of the top four nuclear scientists in the Iranian Defense Ministry.  He was in charge of the scheme to deceive the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) during their visits to Iran. In particular, he had this function regarding the Shian site.

Abbasi Davani’s appointment clearly shows that the clerical regime intends to intensify efforts to use the resources and personnel of IAEO in its drive to acquire nuclear weapons.
