Iranians on hunger strike in Berlin demand freedom of hostages
NCRI – A group of Italian mayors in the Piedmont region of Italy have joined the international call to urge the U.S. government and the United Nations to act to free seven Iranian dissidents of Camp Ashraf residents taken hostage by Iraqi forces on September 1.

The mayors said in a joint statement that the U.S. and U.N. that have made commitments to protect the Iranian dissidents in Iraq have not taken any action.

The mayors condemned the September 1 attack on Camp Ashraf that killed 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)

In a joint statement, the Italian mayors urged to UN to deploy Blue Helmets in Camp Liberty to protect them against any further attack.

Meanwhile the hunger strike by Iranian dissidents in Camp Liberty in Iraq is on its 46th day.

The hunger strike began on September 1 following the massacre at Camp Ashraf. Hunger strikers at Camp Liberty, who, on average, have lost 10 kilograms, are facing critical health issues such as severe reduction of eyesight and hearing, digestive abnormalities and insomnia.

Among the hunger strikers there are many members of families of the hostages and victims of the September 1 massacre.

Simultaneous with the hunger strike in Camp Liberty similar protests are held in Berlin, Geneva, Ottawa and Melbourne. Protesters also demand an independent investigation into the massacre at Camp Ashraf.
