Iranian opposition: Camp Liberty hunger strikers critical on 53rd day

NCRI – More than 50 Camp Liberty residents were transferred to the camps clinic to receive medical treatment as their hunger strike in protest at the Camp Ashraf massacre entered its 53rd day.

Iranians opposition supporters in Geneva, London, Berlin, Ottawa, and Melbourne are also on hunger strike after Iraqi forces under the command of Nouri al-Maliki attacked Camp Ashraf and killed 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), and took seven more hostage.

The release of the seven Camp Ashraf hostages is the strikers’ key demand.

One hunger striker who lost his father during the massacre, and whose mother was abducted, said: “I hold the US responsible for the safety of my mother as well as the martyrdom of my father.

Another added: “It is almost 16 months that I have been living in Camp Liberty prison based on written promises and assurances by the UN and US government, but none of these promises have been fulfilled.

“There is only one option left for us and that is to continue our hunger strike. The people here have been continuously betrayed by you, and hence we do not trust anybody anymore.”
