Iranian dissident PMOI (MEK) hunger striker faints at 69th day in Camp Liberty, Iraq

NCRI – An Iranian dissident in Camp Liberty, Iraq, fainted on Friday after 69 days of hunger strike that calls for the release of the seven Camp Ashraf residents taken hostage by Iraqi forces on September 1.

Today, the hunger strike by Iranian dissidents in camp Liberty in Iraq and in Geneva , Berlin , London, Ottawa and Melbourne entered its 70th day.

The hunger strikers also call on the international community, particularly the U.S. and the UN to provide protection for Camp Liberty residents to prevent further attack.

The fainted hunger striker at Camp Liberty was treated immediately by fluid injection.

In a recent letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, a doctor that daily monitors the condition of protesters in Camp Liberty wrote: “Most men and women on hunger strike have lost 20 percent of their weight and they suffer from insomnia, headaches, dizziness, blurred vision and hearing , muscle loss, bone and joint pain , lack of concentration”

He added that the people of Liberty are ” about to be victims of a humanitarian disaster unfolding before the eyes of the international community. It is therefore necessary to take urgent action to prevent this disaster.”

Among the hunger strikers are many members of the families of the hostages and victims of the massacre on September 1.

The hunger striker are also calling for an independent investigation into the massacre in the September 1 at Camp Ashraf, where 52 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) were executed by Iraqi forces at the behest of the Iranian regime.
