Iran: Political prisoners condemn massacre in Camp Ashraf

NCRI – A group of political prisoners in Iran issues a statement condemning the September 1 massacre of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Camp Ashraf by Iraqi forces.

The prisoners called on international human rights originations to launch an investigation into the attack during which 52 PMOI (MEK) members were executed.

The statement said: “Murdering a number of Iranian refugees in Ashraf pains any freedom-loving human being. This incident happened while according to international conventions these people are refugees under UN protection and at the same time according to agreements with U.S. government, UN, and Iraqi government they ought to have been transferred to third countries for their security.”

“Slaughter of defenseless people, as well as the injured in the hospital, is condemnable anywhere and in any situation and considered crime against humanity”.

“We, as a group of political-conscious prisoners, set aside our political and ideological beliefs and while condemning this inhuman and horrifying act, call for urgent probe by international institutions, in particular by United Nations, to establish a fact-finding committee to investigate this incident.”
