Maryam Rajavi: Growing number of executions in Iran bespeaks of Khamenei’s failure to contain crisis and fear of popular rage
NCRI – According to Iran’s state-run media, on Thursday morning January 13, five prisoners in Khorramabad and on Wednesday January 12, eight prisoners in Tehran were hanged. Simultaneously, Farhadi-Rad, deputy prosecutor of Khouzestan province informed that 16 prisoners had been executed over recent days in Khuzestan. Thereby, the number of executions during past 25 days reaches 75, including 49 in the first 13 days of 2011.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, described brutal and arbitrary executions as a sign of failure of the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader in controlling and containing a crisis that has engulfed the clerical regime in its entirety and has escalated the regime’s fear of the explosion of Iranian people’s anger by far.
She added: Continuation of negotiations with the regime and the policy of appeasement toward the mullahs, who continue to rule only through severe suppression and executions, is not only doomed to failure, but also sets a shameful record in victimizing humanitarian principles and values for petty economic interests and political observations. The only way to confront this regime is to adopt a firm international policy against it and its boycott by the international community.
Reiterating that silence and inaction has emboldened the regime to continue and intensify its crimes, Mrs. Rajavi called on the United Nations Secretary General, the UN Security Council, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other relevant UN bodies, and all human rights advocates in addition to the European Union and the United States to condemn brutal executions in Iran and to adopt urgent measures to stop the growing trend of executions.
