Leader of Iraqi Christian Democrats censures attack on Ashraf

NCRI – The leader of Iraq’s Christian Democrats has condemned the recent attack on Camp Ashraf by forces loyal to Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki.

In a press release on Monday, the Secretary General of the Christian Democrats, Minas al-Yousefi, said, “As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and on the brink of the new year, when people in the world avoid violent acts even on a temporary basis, forces that were supposed to be responsible for protecting Ashraf have violated international humanitarian laws and attacked the unarmed residents of the camp, injuring a number of them in the process.”

“A repeat of previous incidents against the camp at the commencement of the coalition government has deeply saddened all of us at the Christian Democratic Party of Iraq.”

“The link between such pressures and attacks against Camp Ashraf with the proposals and demands of the Iranian regime from the Iraqi government has been proven in the past,” the press release said.

It added, “We call for an immediate end to the suffering of Ashraf residents which has continued during the past two years and urge the UN and the US embassy in Iraq to observe their responsibility in protecting these refugees.”
