Algerian human rights group calls for international protection of Ashraf

NCRI – Algeria’s Anti-discrimination and Equality for Human Rights Association has expressed solidarity with the residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq and demanded an end to the Nouri al-Maliki government’s pressures against the residents as well as guaranteeing of their safety by the international community.

Algeria Times reported on Saturday that in its statement on the occasion of Human Rights Day, the Algerian human rights group wrote that the Iraqi government has implemented racist policies in some cities, including against Ashraf.

Camp Ashraf, Iraq, is home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

“The PMOI has turned Ashraf into a bastion against the Iranian regime and any pressures on it take place at the behest of the Iranian regime.”

The association called on the Iraqi government to put an end to its pressures against Camp Ashraf and urged the international community and the United Nations to stand with the residents of Ashraf for the sake of stability and security in Iraq.
