Inhumane medical restrictions against Ashraf residents intensified

Ashraf under medical siege – No. 2

NCRI – Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, described the criminal intensification of medical restrictions against PMOI members in Ashraf, the obstruction of transfer of the terminally-ill patients to hospitals, and the prevention of their surgeries by the Iraqi forces as a specific plot of the Iranian regime to torture and kill PMOI members in Ashraf and a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions. She described these inhumane measures as ‘Crimes against Humanity’ whose perpetrators must face justice at international tribunals.

The anti-human clerical regime of Iran has set the condition for its unreserved support for the candidacy of Maliki for Iraq’s premiership, extensively opposed in the country by the Iraqi people and their nationalist political forces, as the intensification of suppression of Ashraf residents. Hence, subsequent to Maliki’s visit to Tehran, the extent of pressures and suppressive measures, including access to medical care has escalated in an unprecedented fashion. In the same period, the Iraqi forces, in three assaults on Ashraf residents in the months of October and November, have injured 29 residents; they have obstructed the entry of many essential items including gasoline and lubricants for generators, refrigerators and freezers to Ashraf.

Mrs. Rajavi added: Medical restrictions that have been enforced for the past two years have been consistently brought to the attention of the United Nations officials, U.S. government and forces, and other international authorities. The Iranian Resistance is requesting an immediate intervention by these authorities to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. The names, particulars and medical files of the terminally-ill patients, together with the request for their transfer to European countries have been forwarded to international authorities, including the United Nations, in November 2009 and in April 2010.”

Secretariat of the National Council of Resistance of Iran informed yesterday that the Iraqi forces under the command of Nouri al-Maliki obstructed the transfer of Ms. Elham Fardipour, who is suffering from thyroid cancer, to a hospital. These are part of an inhuman plan of the Iraqi forces to deprive the residents from medical services in order to torture and massacre them.

In another development yesterday and under fabricated excuses, Omar Khalid Tamimi, Iraqi director of Ashraf’s hospital, who pursues the instruction of the committee in charge of suppression of Ashraf, prevented surgery of three residents of Ashraf that were to be carried out in Ashraf hospital. In an inhuman move, he entered the surgery room and stopped the surgeons to carry out their operation and expelled them from the operation room. These surgeons had gone to Ashraf to carry out operations on a number of patients who had been waiting for their operations for more than two weeks.

Omar Khalid, acting as a physician but pursuing ominous goals of the mullahs, threatened an orthopedist and a neurosurgeon who had gone to Ashraf and warned them that they were not allowed to go to Ashraf any more. Before entering Ashraf to carry out operations, these physicians had been taken to the Iraqi battalion headquarters and were given warnings not to go to Ashraf any more. This is while all physicians visit Ashraf under the supervision of prime minister’s office suppressive committee and Omar Khalid.

In addition to the aforementioned measures, in the last two weeks, Omar Khalid has refused to pass on the drugs that Ashraf residents have purchased. For the second time, he prevented the entry of a special chair for a cancer patient that had been prescribed by hospital’s physician.

Mrs. Rajavi called on the United Nations Secretary General, the United Nations Security Council, and the special representative of United Nations Secretary General and UNAMI, in addition to the U.S. government and its forces to act immediately to remove the inhuman siege on Ashraf particularly all restrictions imposed on patients’ access to medical services.
