Iraqi government has obligations towards EU and international community on Ashraf

Achraf, la porte des Lions, entrée principaleNCRI – In an interview with the al-Hurra TV, an Iraqi political analyst and legal expert ‎underscored the European Union’s denunciation of the Iraqi government for violating the ‎rights of Camp Ashraf residents.‎

Camp Ashraf is home to 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s ‎Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).‎

Qahtan al-Saeedi told al-Hurra, “The Iraqi government has certain obligations with ‎respect to its relations with the European Union and the international community when it ‎comes to the residents of Camp Ashraf.”‎

‎“At present, the prevalent issue is the siege laid on the camp [by the Iraqi government]. ‎The EU has condemned the Iraqi government on this issue.”‎

Linking the observance of the residents’ rights to compliance with international laws, ‎Qahtan added, “How can we demand not being subject to UN Charter Chapter Seven ‎while we violate international laws for the satisfaction of this or that country,” referring ‎to the Iranian regime’s pressures on Baghdad to impose stricter pressures on Camp Ashraf ‎residents.‎

‎“In the absence of a working parliament, the Nouri al-Maliki government is moving ‎towards a direction that I think will have adverse consequences,” Qahtan added.‎
