Sample ImageNCRI – As schools and universities are opening for the new academic year in Iran, the clerical regime has increased the number of executions. Just in the period of Sept. 16-20, ten prisoners including a woman were hanged in central city of Yazd, southern city of Ahwaz, Varamin (south of the capital Tehran) and northern city of Shirvan.

On Monday (September 19), three prisoners were hanged in the central prison of city of Yazd while three others were hanged in Karoon Prison in city of Ahwaz.  A day before, on Sunday (September 18) a female prisoner named Keshvar was hanged in the central prison in the southern city of Zahedan. On September 16, a prisoner was hanged in city of Shirvan while two others were executed in Varamin. One of the victims in Varamin was hanged after he was subjected to 174 lashes.

The new wave of hangings in various Iranian cities is a part of Iranian regime’s widespread preparations to confront anti-regime protests by students and youth on the eve of reopening of schools and universities for the new academic year in Iran. Simultaneously, in universities across the country particularly in Tehran University, Iranian regime’s suppressive forces have arrested many students. To this end, numerous university chancellors ad professors have been forced to resign or have been dismissed, and many others have been arrested and imprisoned.
