Dr. Fahmi Al-qeisi Former Iraqi government official calls for protection of Camp Ashraf

Dr. Fahmi al-QeisiNCRI – Dr. Fahmi Al-qeisi former Iraqi government official called on international organizations to enact urgent measures to protect the residents of Camp Ashraf near Baghdad against the repressive actions of the Iranian regime and the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

In an interview with Iraq news agency in Cairo,  said aggressions toward Camp Ashraf in Iraq are in contravention of international law and humanitarian principles.

The former deputy foreign minister who is also an international law professor said Camp Ashraf and its residents have been protected by American forces following the 2003 invasion of Iraq. “So, I don’t think the Americans would abandon the camp or allow the presence of its residents to end there,” Dr. al-Qeisi said, adding, “I am calling for the protection of Ashraf residents in Iraq.”

Camp Ashraf is home to about 3,400 members of the main Iranian opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The Iraqi government has imposed a series of repressive measures against the camp at the behest of the Iranian regime, including the laying of an inhumane siege and preventing the residents access to sufficient medical services.
