Iranian regime leaders voice trepidation over persistence of uprising

NCRI – According to reports obtained by the Social Headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) from inside the country, the clerical regime’s leaders have expressed fear over the continuation of the uprising in their analyses and assessments regarding the February 11 protests. The intensification of the regime’s psychological warfare and propaganda, especially with regards to the pro-regime rally on February 11, is meant to control the current situation.

The clerical regime’s leaders have admitted that the February 11 and December 30 pro-regime staged rallies cannot bring an end to the eight-month-long nationwide uprisings. At a maximum, the measures on February 11 acted as a strong painkiller for a collection of the regime’s incurable ailments during the era of uprisings.

One of the common themes in the regime’s analyses is the lack of real prospects for the regime to return its armed forces to their bases. They have also expressed particular concern about the fact that the uprising has evolved to target the regime’s Supreme Leader with the chants of “down with the principle of velayat-e faqih (absolute clerical rule).”

The regime’s leaders see the explosion of anger during the sham elections as a result of the extensive dimensions of disenchantment among the population as well as the inability of the regime, including the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to implement measures and plans to reduce social and economic ills which have gripped many social sectors.

They have admitted that the presence of opponents will be more widespread in the future, and that not even intense and widespread suppression of the people, psychological warfare, and confronting the leaders of defeated factions or obtaining their cooperation, will suffice to resolve the current crisis. This is because if the leaders of the defeated faction refuse to align themselves with the demands of the protestors or try to retreat, then they will lose the ground, become totally extraneous and thus, set aside. This is something that they themselves are perfectly aware of.
