Iran: Political prisoner under torture while suffering from ailment and on hunger strike

Gohardasht prison in IranNCRI – Political prisoner Reza Joshan, who has been in appalling state of health due to hunger strike since his arrest two weeks ago and foot injuries, is under torture in Gohardasht prison in city of Karaj.

Agents of mullahs’ infamous Ministry of Intelligence and Security arrested Mr. Joshan on December 1, 2009 and immediately transferred him to solitary confinement in Ward 8 of Gohardasht Prison.

Mr. Joshan had previously been arrested during the anti-government protests in recent months in Iran and he has spent sometimes in jail but later released on bail.

Mr. Joshan’s mother, Mrs. Zahra Assadpour Gorgi (Joshan), 52, was also arrested during a raid by Gohardasht prison’s henchmen on her residence on December 7, 2009 (16 of Iranian calendar month of Azar, the Student Day).

Mrs. Assadpour who is suffering from heart problems and respiratory difficulties, had previously spent sixteen months in prison accompanied with her daughter for visiting another daughter in Camp Ashraf, the residence of members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Iraq.

The Iranian regime has intensified pressures on family members of Camp Ashraf residents, many of whom have been arrested in recent years and their fate remains uncertain.

The Iranian Resistance while expressing concern about the conditions of families of PMOI members, calls on international human rights organizations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to take urgent and binding measures to free political prisoners in Iran.
