Chief Islamic Justice of Palestine asks Iraq to reverse its decision for displacement of Camp Ashraf

Dr. Sheikh Taysir al-Tamimi, Chief Justice of PalestineNCRI – Chief Islamic Justice of Palestine, Dr. Taysir al-Tamimi, called upon the international community and its organizations to intervene and ask the Iraqi government to cancel its decision for displacement of Ashraf residents. He warned against a human tragedy which may follow this decision.

Camp Ashraf located in north of Baghdad in Diyala province is home to some 3400 members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) who have been living there for over two decades.

The statement by Sheikh Taysir al-Tamimi, Chief Islamic Justice of Palestine

"Dr. Taysir al-Tamimi, Chief Islamic Justice of Palestine, called on Iraqi government to cancel its decision for Ashraf residents’ displacement as a prelude for their expulsion from Iraq. He emphasized that such a decision contradicts the 4th Geneva Convention, which mandates the protection of civilians at the time of war and guarantees their safety. He warned against a human tragedy which may follow this decision.

Sheikh Taysir al Tamimi indicated the necessity of adhering to all religious teachings, particularly Islamic Sharia, and the spirit of those scripts which call on the protection of these guests and provision of their livelihood and rights as our religious brethren.

Dr. al Tamimi called on the international community and the world and regional organizations, particularly the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, to immediately interfere and discharge their responsibilities vis-à-vis the residents of Ashraf, guarantee their human rights and provide full protection for them.

The Chief Islamic Justice expressed his grave concern regarding this decision which, should it be implemented, it would set a precedent for abuse against the Palestinian refugees living in Iraq."
