Iraqi MP: All the evidence points to Iranian regime meddling in Iraq

NCRI – All the available evidence point to the Iranian regime’s meddling in Iraq, a ranking member of the Iraqi Parliament told the al-Arabiya TV channel on Wednesday.

Abdolkarim al-Samerayi, Deputy Chairman of the Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Committee, referred to the August bombing of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry building dubbed “Black Wednesday” by Iraqis, and said, “There must be a comprehensive and complete review of this.”

He noted focusing only on Syria’s interference in Iraqi affairs and ignoring Iran’s would not be realistic. “The Iranian regime is particularly and persistently meddling in Iraqi affairs. The extent of the regime’s meddling in Iraq is huge. All the available evidence and explanations in Iraq point to this fact.”

Al-Samerayi added, “The Iraqi government, and all Iraqis for that matter, are entitled to follow up on the issue of some neighboring countries’ meddling in Iraq when there are considerable evidence in this regard. Therefore, it is Iraq’s right to make all efforts and use all avenues to stop neighboring countries’ interference.”

“The future of Iraq does not depend on US relations with either Syria or Iraq, because if the current situation persists, there will be more bloodshed.”

In the course of the interview, the al-Arabiya host referred to the recent tensions between Syria and Iraq and asked, “You have discovered considerable arms before tied to the Iranian regime. But, why has the Iranian regime’s involvement not surfaced internationally even once?”

In response, the Iraqi parliamentarian noted that no country’s meddling should go unnoticed, and added, “We, at the Security and Defense Committee as well as the Parliament have said that if this case becomes an international case, then all cases of meddling must undergo review. We will not accept meddling cases if they were to solely focus on a Syrian role. The Iranian regime is involved here, too.”

Al-Samerayi also assured Iraq’s armed forces that Iraqi parliamentarians will back them in efforts to prove cases of interference by neighboring countries.

“We would ask that all options be considered in order to stop such meddling, the result of which would guarantee the establishment of security and stability by the armed forces,” he said.
