Camp Ashraf attacked – Statement 21

NCRI – In the final hours of Tuesday night, the clerical regime's proxies in Iraq, in a mirror image of the actions of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and plainclothes agents in Iran, began to break the windows of vehicles belonging to Ashraf residents, slashed their tires with knives and daggers, and smashed trees and stone pavements in the middle and sides of roads. They are extremely sensitive to taking of pictures and video, and violently attack those engaging in recording of their actions.

The agents are equipped with electric batons, axes, Iron bars, hoop iron, and sticks with nails sticking out from top to bottom. They prevent the crossing of vehicles carrying the injured and beat passengers with the intention of killing them. PMOI member Mehrdad Safari was one of those who around midnight suffered a blow to his head, with blood gushing out.

At 24:00 local time, Iraqi forces prevented the entry of an Iraqi physician who sought to visit and treat the wounded, many of whom are in critical condition. The Iranian Resistance considers Nouri al-Maliki directly and personally responsible for today's massacre in Ashraf as well as the prevention of entry of physicians into the camp and the deaths of those individuals in critical condition. Their families and lawyers will subsequently file legal complaints at international tribunals.

An Iraqi colonel has threatened that if the PMOI refused to surrender, tomorrow they must expect a worse massacre than what they experienced today. The PMOI members who heard the remarks of the said colonel all responded that they will never surrender to the clerical regime and its agents whether in Iran or in Iraq even if it means that they will all be sent to the firing squad or hanged in Ashraf, much like the massacre of political prisoners by the clerical regime in Iran in 1988.
