Iran: July 17 uprising breaks Khamenei’s spell, signals start of phase of mullahs’ overthrow

The Iranian Resistance's leader, Mr. Massoud RajaviNCRI – The Iranian Resistance's leader, Mr. Massoud Rajavi, issued a statement broadcast by Simaye Azadi (Iran National Television), in which he praised the uprising of millions of Iranians on July 17. He noted that this uprising in one word attests to the beginning of the end for the regime and heralds the phase of overthrow of the regime.

Mr. Rajavi added that the protesters did not intend to attend the deceptive Friday prayers sermon of the clerical regime on July 17. They had gone to the scene to sincerely pray for freedom, the martyrs, and prisoners. The ceaseless chants of “Death to dictator” and “Death to Khamenei” were supplemented with the new slogan, “Khamenei is a murderer, his rule is illegitimate.”

Mr. Rajavi added that this uprising, which is a prelude to the liberation of universities from three decades of injustice and oppression imposed by the religious dictatorship, conveys three important lessons:

The first is the intensification of the contradiction between the people and the entire velayat-e faqih regime (absolute supremacy of clerical rule). Everyone once again clearly witnessed that the religious tyranny, the absolute clerical rule, is at odds and alien to the concept of elections, and no positive result can be derived from it.

The second is the intensification of the incurable rift and feuding within the feeble and unipolar regime in its final days.

The third lesson, which is also the most important one, is the persistence of the uprising and the determination of the arisen people and selfless youth to carry on with the protests in whatever circumstances using whatever pretexts or occasions. For the regime, the water is already over the dam, and its Supreme Leader has lost the initiative. [Former mullahs’ president Ali-Akbar Hashemi] Rafsanjani explicitly acknowledged and underscored the crisis and the deterioration of the regime’s situation as well as the fact that the entire regime suffered losses during the elections.

Mr. Rajavi added that since the day the spell and clout of the velayat-e faqih regime were shattered during the sham elections and ever since the uprising began, the regime’s train, which lacks a break and gears, has fallen into a steep slope towards overthrow. Indeed, the ousting of the religious fascism has been triggered.

Khamenei committed a series of mistakes. He both wanted to bring Ahmadinejad out of the ballot box in one round and release statistics about participation of 40 million people amounting to 85% of the population, thus livening up the elections; And, on the other hand, he also wanted to continue mudslinging Rafsanjani, Moussavi, Karoubi, and others in order to completely purge them from the scene. This is where the rift opened. But, the actual circumstances and the vast explosive potential will quickly and at whatever cost cause eruptions out of even minute rifts.
