Iran-Europe: Ahmadinejad’s plan for Mid-East draws ire

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier
NCRI – Following Ahmadinejad’s proposal in Saudi Arabia to move Israel to Europe, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier condemned is as either cynical or frivolous.

He was reacting after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that if Germany and Austria feel responsible for massacring Jews during World War II, a state of Israel should be established on their soil.
"This shows either the lack of seriousness or the high degree of cynicism with which the Iranian government assesses the situation there," the German minister told reporters in Brussels.
Steinmeier added that such comments would not help Europe’s attempts to engage with Tehran over its controversial nuclear plans.
"It is not made easier by the fact that Mr Ahmadinejad comes up with new ideas, that the people of Israel could move to Germany and Austria, to resolve the Middle East problem," said Steinmeier.
In an interview with Iran’s Arabic-language satellite channel, Al-Alam, Ahmadinejad repeated his view that the Jewish state was a "tumour".
Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel also reacted to Ahmadinejad’s remarks and called it “an outrageous gaffe, which I want to repudiate in the sharpest manner."
