Iraqi Kurdish MP: Iraq’s laws do not allow expulsion of Ashraf residents

Council of Representatives of Iraq (Iraqi Parliament)NCRI – An Iraqi Member of Parliament from the Kurdish block has stressed that expulsion of Ashraf residents will not be permitted, the Iraqi daily, Azzaman, reported on Monday.

Farzand Ahmad Fekreh added that expulsion of Ashraf residents, who are the members of the main Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), would not be in agreement with international customs, conventions, and human rights.

Iraq’s constitution also prohibits expulsion of Ashraf residents, the MP said, adding: A number of Iraqi parliamentarians oppose such measures against the PMOI.

In April, a group of members of the Council of Representatives of Iraq (Iraqi Parliament) from the three parliamentary factions of National Accord Front, Iraqi National List, and the National Dialogue Front, sent an urgent message to the United Nations Secretary General described the presence of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), in Iraq as legal and legitimate within the framework of international conventions.

They demanded international monitoring of the situation and personal intervention of the UN Secretary General.

On April 4, the Committee of Friendship between Iraqi Kurds and the Iranian People expressed its deepest regrets about pressures on members of Iranian opposition group in Camp Ashraf.

We “ask the Iraqi government to end these pressures which have tainted the reputation of Iraq and the Iraqi government,” the committee said in a statement.”
