Maryam Rajavi congratulates Christians on occasion of Christmas and Christian New Year

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian ResistanceNCRI – Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, congratulated Christians throughout the world and particularly in Iran, on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ and the New Year. Mrs. Rajavi said that in the final months of 2008 “toilers of justice” succeeded in defeating the clerical dictatorship of Iran’s grand deceit in slandering the just and freedom-seeking resistance movement of the Iranian people.

“The European judicial system annulled the unjust listing of the PMOI in the EU’s terrorist list in two consecutive judgments,” she said, just as the UN General Assembly strongly condemned the gross violation of human rights and religious discrimination by the mullahs in Iran.

The Iranian Resistance’s President-elect commended “European legal experts, parliamentarians from around the world, over 1,000 elected mayors across France and all the generous Christians who rose to assist” the Iranian Resistance. “Greetings to all the noble human beings who rose to help Ashraf City and lighted up the world with their humane solidarity,” she added.

Mrs. Rajavi referred to the “arrest of numerous Christians, the destruction of at least 10 Jewish Synagogues and Sunni Muslim Mosques, the suppression of the dervishes, and the expulsion of many students of other religious backgrounds, as well as numerous discriminations against them,” and said, “this regime arrests 600,000 and executes 400 people each year. Currently it has prohibited 4,000 books and forbidden the departure of 100,000 people from the country or prevented them from working for their livelihood as a way of preventing explosive social upheavals that threaten it. Even so it is facing hundreds of protest actions in this month alone, particularly from student supporters of the Iranian Resistance.”

The Iranian Resistance’s President-elect added: “The Iranian Resistance stands diametrically opposed to this merciless regime and seeks to build a society based on respect for human rights, abolition of the death penalty, gender equality, and separation of religion and state. A society in which there will be no discrimination among followers of various religions or denominations, and in which all will be equal before the law.” Mrs. Rajavi added: “Last fall, in a visit to Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, I prayed for my compatriots’ freedom, for the deliverance of the Iraqi people, and for peace and freedom throughout the world. Now, on the eve of the New Year and 2009, I wish all my dear compatriots in Iran and abroad, and all the friends and supporters of this Resistance, and all the followers of Jesus Christ, a year full of success.”
