Iran: a new crackdown on internet cafés in Tehran

NCRI – Seventeen coffee shops were shutdown and ten people were arrested in the latest crackdown by the State Security Forces (SSF) on internet cafés in Tehran.

During last week, a major plan was in effect to inspect coffee shops providing internet service to their customers in Tehran’s metropolitan area in particular in the city of Karaj some 40 km west of the capital.

Despite the fact that controlling coffee shops was one of the declared original aims of the "boosting public security plan," the inspections this week were unexpected.

In the SSF inspections of hundreds of internet cafés, 115 shops received warring citations and shutdown notices.

It is believed that during the week 17 coffee shops were closed and ten shop owners were arrested by the SSF.
