Iran: Mullah’s regime crackdown on rap music

NCRI – In the latest series of crackdown the Iranian regime is planning to arrest rap singers. Mohammad Dashtgoli, the regime’s official for evaluation of music at the so-called Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry said that rap music "has been categorized as illegal."

“Studios producing this type of music will be sealed and rap singers will be dealt with,” state-run IRNA news agency quoted the official. Dashtgoli said a large number of illegal rap singers have already been identified.

He also expressed his frustration at the rap artists by saying that they publish their music on the internet with a very low cost. “We should find a solution for this.”

Recently the rap music has become increasingly popular among the youth in Tehran for its content bearing social and political themes.

Since April, Iran has been pressing ahead with one of its toughest crackdowns in years, warning women on their manner of dressing, attacking "immoral" cafes and seizing illegal satellite dishes.
