Belga: The Iranian Opposition Leader denounced the wave of ExecutionsNCRI – Belgium news agency, Belga reported on Wednesday that Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian opposition leader in exile called on the international community to condemn the new wave of public executions which has gained unprecedented magnitude in recent weeks in Iran.

Belga continued that according to the statement issued by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), headed by Mrs. Rajavi as its President-elect, “the Iranian regime faced with growing popular upheavals, in particular the alarming fuel uprising on June 25 and 26, 2007, has turned to mass executions as a last resort.”

She added, “Since Ahmadinejad’s ascendancy to power more than 60 political prisoners have been executed and 600 other prisoners are on death row in the notorious Gohardasht Prison in western Tehran.”

Belga quoted the NCRI statement, “Instead of emboldening the mullahs with the policy of appeasement, the Iranian regime must be referred to the UN Security Council for adoption of binding measures against it.”

The report added that the NCRI is made up of a number of Iranian opposition groups such as the Mojahedin-e Khalq.
