Iran: Purging university professors, a new suppressive tactic

NCRI – Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s appointed Tehran University Chancellor Abbass-Ali Amid-Zanjani fired three professors, Hossein Bashireeh, Hadi Samti, and Saeed Shah-handeh, the state-run daily Mardom-Salari reported on August 24.

In a directive, the university security, a branch of Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) announced, “University professors are required to inform the institution’s security office of all their anticipated foreign trips, even for personal reasons, in advance. Trips for research or scientific studies funded by the state universities or non-governmental institutions are not exempted from the rule.”

On June 21, 2006, in line with the suppressive policy, Amid-Zanjani fired 50 senior faculty members of Tehran University.

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international student unions and other related bodies to condemn such suppressive measures against Iranian professors and students by the mullahs’ regime and calls for adopting measures to expel the ruling religious fascism from international cultural and educational institutions.
