Regime’s Mock Trials Expose True Fear of PMOI’s Influence and Commitment in Iran

A sham trial in Tehran orchestrated to pretend members of the Iranian Resistance have enjoyed a failed trial

In continuation of the mock trials that the clerical regime conducts every week against 100 leaders and members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), new lies were presented on Tuesday, May 8.

The judge appointed for this sham trial openly threatened Western countries, calling on them to cooperate with the leading state sponsor of terrorism and expel members of the Iranian Resistance from their soil.

In a session covered by numerous state media outlets, he stated, “We warn the countries hosting the defendants in this case that, according to international anti-terrorism conventions, hosting these defendants is a crime. Some of these countries, like France, should reconsider hosting defendants who are accused of terrorist activities and crimes against humanity and cooperate with international organizations for their extradition according to the issued red notice. Additionally, the people of Albania, for hosting the defendants in this case, should pursue their extradition to Iran from their government.”

Ali Sedaghat, summoned as an expert to this session, made statements intended to attack the PMOI but inadvertently undermined decades-long propaganda of the clerical regime and practically proved the high moral ground of the organization in a country where the majority of people are sick and tired of the state’s hypocrisy.

Sedaghat said, “Imam Khomeini used the term ‘Monafeqin’ (Arabic for hypocrites) for the PMOI. A hypocrite is someone who outwardly claims to be religious but internally has no faith. The hypocrites openly declare that they believe in God, but their God is different from ours. In the late 2000s, Maryam Rajavi stated in a meeting that we have never accepted the God of the mullahs from the beginning.”

Furthermore, Safaodin Tabaraian, an intelligence agent posing as a historian, resorted to new lies to tarnish the image and counter the social popularity of the PMOI.

He falsely claimed, “On March 1, 1991, a region in Iraq called Ameriyeh was bombed. Following this incident, the organization [PMOI] separated 900 children from their families and sent them to Europe. These crimes are unacceptable. The Mojahedin separated families. At that time, the organization had several prisons in Iraq. An organization that established ten prisons for its members, imagine how it treated ordinary people.”

Tabaraian’s reference was to a pivotal event 34 years ago, during the winter of 1990, following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. At that time, a coalition of multinational forces launched the most intense bombings in history on Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. Amidst this chaos, the PMOI executed one of the largest humanitarian operations to date.

Recognizing the imminent danger, the organization made a bold decision to ensure the safety of their children by sending them to European and American countries. PMOI members were given the choice to either accompany their children to these safer destinations or to send them to relatives or supportive families abroad, allowing them to continue their resistance against the clerical regime near Iran’s borders. This critical and high-risk operation resulted in hundreds of children, some accompanied by their parents, finding asylum and starting new lives in Western countries.

This context reveals the true concerns of the mullahs, inadvertently exposed by the mock trial judge and the regime’s intelligence experts. One of the primary objectives of these sham trials is to pressure Western nations to expel PMOI members. The regime also conceded that the PMOI has consistently opposed religious deception under the guise of Islam and has steadfastly maintained its principles without succumbing to political expediency.

Moreover, the regime’s profound issue with the PMOI stems from the organization’s unwavering commitment to their struggle and their round-the-clock dedication to the cause of freedom and democracy. What the dictatorial mullahs consider the highest crime is, in reality, the greatest honor for the oppressed people of Iran.
