Mccaul Calls For More Significant Action On Iran For Nuclear Program

WashingtonExaminer_23102020

EXCLUSIVE — House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) has called on the Biden administration to take more significant action against Iran for its “ongoing nuclear provocation.”

McCaul sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday expressing his position that the United States should advance a formal finding of Iran’s non-compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and seek a referral to the United Nations Security Council at next week’s International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors meeting.

“The administration must take swift and urgent action to directly address Iran’s ongoing nuclear provocation,” McCaul wrote in the letter, which the Washington Examiner obtained. “This must go beyond previous censures, including those adopted by the [Board of Governors] in 2022.

Special UN Human Rights Rapporteur Expresses Concern Over Increased Executions in Iran

javaid-rehman-unga-third-committee

In a recent report published by the United Nations on March 1, Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, expressed deep concerns regarding the escalating rate of executions in the country. Rehman highlighted that in the latest findings, at least 834 individuals were executed in 2023, marking a significant 43% increase compared to the 582 reported executions in 2022.

Rehman’s report underlined the alarming trend of forced disappearances and hasty, arbitrary executions of both real and perceived political dissidents, including children. He emphasized that events such as these during the years 1981, 1982, and 1988 have not been subject to proper investigation, scrutiny, or accountability by the authorities.

The report referenced a significant judicial decision made in July 2022, where the Stockholm Regional Court, exercising its universal jurisdiction, convicted Hamid Nouri, a former prison guard, for his involvement in war crimes and murder during the massacre of political prisoners in 1988. Nouri was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the atrocities committed during that period.

Despite extensive efforts by Iran’s regime to convince the people to vote in its sham parliamentary elections, the event, held on March 1, was met with widespread boycott by a public that is fed up with tyranny, lack of freedoms, and corruption. According to reports by PMOI activists in Iran, voting stations were empty in most locations in both large and small cities across the country.

This morning, regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei pleaded with the people again to vote in his sham elections. “All eyes are on our country,” Khamenei said. The Mehdi Ebrahimi high-school in Tehran’s Sepah Street, which has been turned into a voting station, was empty, according to videos sent by reporters for the PMOI website.

Hossein Abedini, an Iranian dissident, was in the back of a car returning to his Westminster office following meetings in parliament earlier this month when he received his latest call from counter-terrorism police.

The officer from Scotland Yard’s new hostile state threat unit was checking in to make sure he was taking all the necessary security precautions. Was he using licensed taxi companies? Did he have an alarm system?

Don’t open the door to anyone, he was told. The threat to Abedini’s life was regarded as so serious that the same unit had called him a couple of weeks earlier, in January. Detectives also visited him in his north London home just before Christmas.

Iran’s Regime Steps Up Arms Sales To Sudan, Raising Red Sea Concerns

IRGC-Drone

Iran’s regime is reportedly sending attack drones to the Sudanese military, a move that could escalate the country’s civil war and grant Tehran a strategic foothold in the Red Sea.

This development comes as Iran reestablishes diplomatic ties with Sudan after a 2016 break. Sudan, previously seeking closer relations with the West, saw its progress stall due to its ongoing civil war. The US, citing human rights concerns, imposed sanctions on both the Sudanese military (SAF) and the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

U.S. and Arab officials allege that Iran has begun supplying attack drones to the SAF in recent months. These drones are expected to help the SAF counter RSF offensives and regain control of lost territory.

Mandiant Uncovers Suspected Iran-Linked Espionage Campaign Targeting Aerospace and Defense Industries

cyber crime

In a recent blog post, cybersecurity firm Mandiant has unveiled alarming findings regarding a suspected espionage campaign targeting aerospace, aviation, and defense industries across the Middle East. Mandiant’s research suggests that the activity, attributed with moderate confidence to the Iranian actor UNC1549, poses significant security risks to organizations operating in the region.

The suspected espionage campaign, which Mandiant believes to have ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been active since at least June 2022 and continues to operate as of February 2024. This prolonged duration underscores the persistence and sophistication of the threat posed by UNC1549.
