Iran: British Parliamentarian calls for action to save lives of abducted PMOI members

Andrew Mackinlay Member of The British Parliament NCRI, August 28 – Andrew Mackinlay Member of The British Parliament and its Foreign Affairs Committee raised his concern over the abduction of two members of the PMOI in Baghdad in separate messages on August 10 to the Iraqi Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and the British Foreign Minister. Excerpts of his letter to Mr. Ibrahim Jaafari, the Iraqi Prime Minister are as follows:

“I am deeply concerned to learn that Iraq’s Interior Ministry’s forces arrested two Iranian citizens, namely Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi on the 4th August in Baghdad.

“I am particularly disturbed because these are ‘protected persons’ under the Fourth Geneva Convention. My purpose in writing to you is so that I can be assured that under no circumstances will they be deported or handed over to the Iran Government; in whose hands they would suffer torture and eventual execution.

“I understand that following their arrest in Baghdad they have been taken to the city of Al-Amara.

“You may be aware that I, as a Member of the House of Commons and its Foreign Affairs Committee, have been particularly supportive of the new Iraq Government in their difficult and delicate work of building a democratic state and where the rule of law prevails. Consequently, it would be a great blow and a severe disappointment to a good friend of Iraq if the protected persons status of Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi was not immediately respected by your Government.

"I would hope that you would be able to reassure me by email with the utmost expedition."
