PMOI/MEK’s 58th Anniversary, A Testament to Determination

People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI-MEK)

September 6 marked the 58th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the main constituent of the NCRI. This organization has played a pivotal role in Iran’s tumultuous history over the past five decades. Despite enduring relentless oppression, demonization, and violence at the hands of the Iranian regime, the MEK’s unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom has only grown stronger with time.

The MEK’s history is marked by its indomitable spirit and dedication to the struggle for a democratic Iran. Throughout Iran’s past fifty-year history, this organization has consistently been at the forefront of political and social movements, shaping the nation’s destiny.

The Iranian regime has spared no effort in suppressing the MEK for the last four decades. The regime’s methods have been nothing short of brutal, including the execution of more than 120,000 opponents, the majority of whom were MEK members and supporters. The summer of 1988 saw a horrifying massacre, with over 30,000 political prisoners executed, the majority of them MEK members and supported merely for their unwavering allegiance to the MEK.

In its attempt to discredit the MEK, the Iranian regime launched a relentless propaganda campaign. Mentioning the organization became a criminal act, and the regime demonized the MEK through a vast propaganda apparatus. The regime’s Revolutionary Guards even formed a tens of thousands cyber army to carry out this campaign.

One of the regime’s primary objectives in this demonization campaign was to portray the MEK as a cult with little popular support. However, an examination of the statistics related to the regime’s efforts reveals the fallacy of this narrative. The regime has produced an astonishing number of materials against the MEK, including 198 movies, 881 documentaries, and 538 books. Cover organizations like the Nejat Society and the Habilian Foundation were created solely to spread false news and demonize the MEK.

The regime’s substantial investment in demonizing the MEK raises a crucial question: Why would the Iranian regime dedicate such vast resources and efforts to undermine a group it claims lacks popular support? This extensive campaign suggests the regime’s deep concern about the potential for the MEK to gain widespread backing despite its efforts to paint the organization as a cult.

Despite the brutal repression and relentless demonization, young Iranians continue to be drawn to the MEK. Resistance Units, operating in every province and city of Iran, have been a driving force behind recent uprisings. These young Iranians are motivated by the MEK’s unwavering commitment to freedom and its refusal to bow down to dictatorship.

The new generation of Iranians is fearless, willing to face imprisonment and violence to achieve the freedom they desire. Their loyalty to the cause of freedom and their unbroken determination ensures that the MEK’s legacy remains deeply rooted in Iranian society.

As we commemorate the 58th anniversary of the MEK’s founding, we pay tribute to their unwavering resilience and dedication to the cause of a free and democratic Iran. The regime’s brutal tactics and propaganda machine have failed to extinguish the spirit of the Iranian people, who continue to stand with the MEK in their quest for a brighter future.
