NCRI – Pursuing their policy of appeasement, some European Union states have told the mullahs they will do their best to maintain the PMOI on the terror list, ignoring the fact that the European Court of Justice stated this to be illegal. They hope this measure will lead to Tehran stopping its nuclear activities.

These revelations were made by an MEP and representatives of the Iranian Resistance at a press conference in Berlin on 23 March. The German capital welcomed the EU heads of state to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the European Community.

Some governments of the European Union intend telling Tehran they do not want regime change for that country, senior EU diplomats told MEPs and other European MPs, said Struan Stevenson, Vice-President of the EPP-ED group in the European Parliament. He added that in order to reassure Tehran, these countries want to maintain the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI) on the black list, by ignoring the first instance court ruling.

Struan Stevenson revealed the contents of a letter signed by Tony Blair to several British MPs, stating that on 30 January, the EU decided to keep the PMOI on the back list.

Struan Stevenson said it was a blatant violation, and that by doing so, the EU Council of Ministers effectively stands above the law, trampling upon the rule of law. He recalled that 1000 MPs from 23 European countries had condemned this clear infringement.

He wondered if he and hundreds of MPS who have for years supported the PMOI and NCRI, were to be considered as supporters of terrorism? He stressed, it is the French and British governments that are encouraging the terrorist mullahs ruling Iran. These governments must know that in practise, their behaviour means a support of terrorism, he said.

In his view, the measure of the EU Council of Ministers shows a very short term, naïve and dangerous political vision. The last 16 years, and especially the last two years, has shown that concessions and compromise with the mullahs, above all when it is against the Iranian opposition, is a failed policy. It merely encourages Tehran to intensify its efforts to obtain nuclear weapons and its interference in Iraq, paving the way for critical crisis in the Middle East.

Mohammad Mohaddessin, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the NCRI, said he had important information from sources inside the Iranian regime and its supreme National Security Council headed by Ahmadinejad. These sources said Paris and London had told Tehran that in spite of the Court ruling, they were ready to show good will towards Tehran and demonstrate they did not want a change of regime. In order to reassure the mullahs, they stressed they would prevent the Iranian oppositions name being removed from the black list.

Javad Dabiran (NCRI representative in Germany), released a statement signed by 100 Federal and 200 Regional German MPs calling for the implementation of the Court ruling and denouncing the EU’s lack of respect for this judgement. The statement said in part, the inclusion of the PMOI in the black list was politically motivated and served economic deals with the mullahs. The text added this behaviour was contrary to the war against terrorism.
