PR Newswire (press release), 24 March — The following statement is being issued by Society of Iranian-American Scholars & Professionals (San Diego) and Colorado’s Iranian American Community: On Thursday March 22, 2007, representatives of Iranian-American communities from twenty states including California, Colorado, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Florida, hosted an evening reception in the US Congress to celebrate the arrival of the Iranian New Year, Norouz.

More than one hundred senior Congressional staffers from both the Senate and the House, along with representatives of the Iranian-American communities gathered to celebrate Norouz with cultural festivities, traditional Iranian new year feast, and live performances.

The New Year message by several members of the U.S. Congress was delivered at the event. A photo exhibit of recent protests by Iranian women, students and teachers was also on display.

Mr. Alireza Jafarzadeh, author of "The Iran Threat: President AhmadiNejad and the Coming Nuclear Crisis," was the keynote speaker at the event. He offered his wishes to the members of U.S. Congress and staff on the occasion of Norouz. Mr. Jafarzadeh expressed his best hopes that the coming year will herald a new era of freedom, peace and prosperity for the Iranian people.

He noted that the celebration of the Norouz at the Congress, similar to such celebrations in the previous years, is a clear indication of the support in the U.S. Congress for the Iranian people and their organized Resistance seeking freedom, democracy and national unity in Iran.

Mr. Jafarzadeh applauded the opposition of the majority of U.S. Congress to the policy of appeasement of Tehran regime. He described as very sensible the bi-partisan opposition of the US Congress to blacklisting of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran since 1997.

"As Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, has emphasized, the solution to threats posed by the ruling regime in Iran is neither foreign war nor appeasement. The solution is to support the Iranian people and their organized resistance. The dawn of freedom is in the destiny of Iranian people and no one can deprive them form their inalienable right to freedom and democracy," added Mr. Jafarzadeh.

In closing, representative of the Iranian-American Communities declared their solidarity with the democratic movement in Iran and the ongoing protests by teachers, women, students and labor unions.
