Governement Accused of siding with mullahs in Iran

By Chris Moncrieff

Press Association, 19 March – The British Government was today accused of siding with the mullahs in Iran rather than with the “just” resistance movement of the Iranian people.

Tory MP Brian Binley (Northampton South) spoke out at a Westminster meeting of the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, at which Britain was accused of trying to undermine the ruling of the European Court of Justice to remove the resistance movement, the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI), from the EU’s terrorist list.

Mr Binley said: “It is to the detriment of this Government that it has for many years actively sided with the mullahs’ ruling in Iran rather than the Iranian people and their just resistance.”

He said they had learned last week that Britain was the main country pressing for the PMOI to be kept on the terrorist list.

Andrew McKinlay (Lab Thurrock) described the Government’s stance on this issue as “a matter of terrible injustice”. He added: “The Government is doing a disservice to the United Kingdom. The PMOI is trying to bring about change in Iran and to diffuse an international crisis in the region,” he added.
