Tourism Police: A new suppressive plan under the pretext of protecting tourists

Over past eleven months, this would be the tenth suppressive police force introduced

NCRI – Soon there will be a new suppressive force in place called “Tourism Police” in Iran, the state-run news agency Fars reported on Sunday.

Chief of the Elite-unit for Protection in the Organization of Cultural Heritage, Brig. Gen. Abbas-Ali Rohi said, “In accordance with the country’s needs, in the first phase of the plan, we have suggested that 2,200 Tourism Police transfer to the Joints Chiefs of Staff headquarters to protect the tourists.” 

From the start of the year, this has been the tenth police force which has been set up to suppress popular uprisings and demonstrations. The previous forces are as follows: District Police, Youth Police, Dormitory Police, Undercover Police, Mountain Police, Mehr Police, Metro Police and School Police. The purpose of these forces is to combat the volatile state of the society.
