Iran: Political Prisoners’ Families Rally in Front of Evin Prison on the 33rd Day of the Nationwide Uprising

NCRI logoOn Tuesday, the 33rd day of the nationwide uprising, 1,000 families of political prisoners gathered outside Evin prison from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and demanded information about their children. But no clear answer was given to them.

On the same day, the families of political prisoners, sympathizers of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced in a statement, “We will gather in front of Evin prison to defend our children, and we call all human rights and freedom defenders to gather in front of Evin.” The families statement stressed that “the responsibility for the lives of political prisoners lies with Khamenei” and “we, along with Iranian resistance, urge the Secretary General of the United Nations and all international human rights institutions to take action by using all possible means to save the lives of political prisoners in Iran, and send a delegation to visit the prisons with the presence of the families of the prisoners and representatives of the United Nations.”

On Tuesday night, on the 33rd night of the uprising, the slogan “Death to the dictator” echoed from houses and rooftops in different districts of Tehran, including Geisha, Tehran Sar, Majidieh, Saadat Abad, Ekbatan, and Shahr Ziba. People held night demonstrations in various cities, including Shiraz, Ahvaz, Rudehen, Varamin, Abdanan, Saqqez, and Yazd, chanting, “Death to Khamenei” and “Death to the dictator,” In Yazd, demonstrators in the Fahadan neighborhood clashed with the State Security Force. The latter came to the scene in anti-riot vehicles.

On Tuesday afternoon, the anti-riot guards attacked the 5th Brigade prison in the Greater Tehran Penitentiary (Fashafouyeh), destroyed the prisoners’ belongings, broke the television sets, beat them up, and threatened to kill them through gas and suffocation. About 2,000 prisoners are in Brigade 5 prison of Greater Tehran Penitentiary.
